South African National Innovation Survey (INNOV) 2008: All provinces

The data set comprises the raw data from the 757 valid completed Innovation Survey questionnaires from the 757 private sector business enterprises plus the weightings for each cell defined by one of four size classes and Standard Industrial Classification (SIC) sub-sector.

South African National Innovation Survey (INNOV) 2010-2012: All provinces

This data set contains the responses of South African business enterprises on their innovation activities carried out between 2010 and 2012. In completing the questionnaire, enterprises followed a skip pattern, e.g., depending on whether or not they had carried out product or process innovation during the period covered by the survey.

South African Business Innovation Survey (INNOV) 2014-16: All provinces

This data set contains the responses of South African business enterprises on their innovation activities carried out between 2014 and 2016. In completing the questionnaire, enterprises followed a skip pattern, e.g., depending on whether or not they had carried out product or process innovation during the period covered by the survey.

Of the targeted businesses of 4 191, 642 responses (15%) were realised.

There are 259 variables and 642 cases in the data set.

This aggregated data set contains the responses of South African business enterprises on their innovation activities carried out between 2014 and 2016. In completing the questionnaire, enterprises followed a skip pattern, e.g., depending on whether or not they had carried out product or process innovation during the period covered by the survey.

This data set contains the responses of Offices of Technology Transfer (OTT) directors who participated in the IP & TT survey. This survey also contains a qualitative component.

Integrated Planning, Development and Modelling Project (IPDM) 2007-10: Eight provinces in South Africa

The IPDM questionnaire survey data is part of the IPDM/STEPSA project's spatial planning exercise, and was aimed at supplying detailed migration history data for 8 provinces (Gauteng, Limpopo, North West, Mpumalanga, KZN, Eastern Cape, Western Cape and Free State), together with respondent data on household structure and economy, transport access and needs, and housing access and needs.

The data set contains 3114 variables and 5916 cases.

Integrated Planning, Development and Modelling Project (IPDM) 2007-10: Phase1a - Gauteng, northern parts of Mpumalanga and Sekhukhune district in Limpopo

The IPDM questionnaire survey data is part of the IPDM / STEPSA project's spatial planning exercise, and was aimed at supplying detailed migration history data in the major migration corridors in South Africa, (Gauteng, northern parts of Mpumalanga and Sekhukhune district in Limpopo) together with respondent data on household structure and economy, transport access and needs, and housing access and needs.

The 2008 Phase 1a dataset contains more detailed migration and housing information.

The data set contains 1664 variables and 2865 cases.

Integrated Planning, Development and Modelling Project (IPDM) 2007-10: Phase1b - Northern parts of Limpopo, North West, Free State, KwaZulu-Natal, Eastern Cape and Western Cape

The IPDM questionnaire survey data is part of the IPDM / STEPSA project's spatial planning exercise, and was aimed at supplying detailed migration history data for the northern parts of Limpopo, North West, Free State, KwaZulu-Natal, Eastern Cape and Western Cape, together with respondent data on household structure and economy, transport access and needs, and housing access and needs.

The 2010 Phase 1b data contains proportionately more transport information and devotes less space to migration.

The data set contains 2461 variables and 3051 cases.

Innovation Partnership for Rural Development Programme (IPRDP) 2017 Community Impact Assessment Round 1 (CIA1) - Household data in four provinces in South Africa

The data set contains household demographic data in selected villages: 11 villages in 4 IPRDP district demonstration municipalities (Amathole, Chris Hani, Capricorn, Gert Sibande); and 4 comparison sites in 2 IPRDP demonstration municipalities (Sekhukhune; Ehlanzeni) and 2 non-demonstration municipalities (Ugu; Alfred Nzo).

The socioeconomic dimensions of farming systems and rural farmer households in the context of food security: New generation vaccine programme 2016 (KAPP Vaccines) - Five provinces in South Africa

This dataset contains the responses of smallholder farmers who kept cattle, or any combination of cattle with small stock (sheep and goats) across five provinces in South Africa.

The questionnaire includes questions on household demographics, source of income, livestock keeping activities and facilities and disease control measures. The aim of this study was to identify livestock farmers' knowledge, attitudes, practices and perceptions (KAPP) on primary animal healthcare with a special focus on vaccinations.

The data contains 191 variables and 591 cases.

Knowledge, attitudes and behaviour of health workers working in maternal and child health care services (MIMMS) 2014-15 - All provinces in South Africa

The data set consists of 190 cases and 285 variables.

MIMMS Community level qualitative data: Professional health workers (PHW) 2014-15 - Eight provinces in South Africa

The data set consists of 39 transcripts of interviews with professional health workers. Gauteng province was excluded from the study as approval from Department of Health could not be obtained.

MIMMS Community level qualitative data: Traditional birth attendants (TBA) 2014-15 - Seven provinces in South Africa

The data set consists of 15 transcripts of interviews with traditional birth attendants.

All nine provinces were included in the study sample, however, no data were collected for TBAs in Eastern Cape and KwaZulu Natal, urban or rural, Limpopo, urban, North West rural, or Western Cape urban, as TBAs’ practice is not encouraged in many communities and finding willing participants was thus a challenge.
