This data set contains the responses from 476 participants regarding household demographic information, poverty perceptions, household income and expenditure patterns, food and nutrition security, asset status of the household, health status, children and education, unemployment and poverty, employment and income generating history of household members, credit risk, general overview of the EPWP project, EPWP employment, skill and training profile, and personal/household benefit from EPWP.

The study targeted 400 EPWP beneficiaries and the actual realised sample was 376 EPWP current and past beneficiaries from 15 EPWP projects in 4 KZN districts. The study also targeted 100 non-beneficiaries for comparisons.

The data set contains 476 cases and 1087 variables.

An Outcomes Evaluation of the NDC fruit processors factory in Tzaneen (NDC) 2016: Suppliers

This study did an evaluation of the socio-economic spillovers of the introduction of a fruit processing factory in Tzaneen. The data file contains responses from the suppliers to the NDC fruit processors factory. The data contains information regarding the supplier's demographics, business activity, job creation, source of merchandise and the market environment.

The data set contains 62 records and 66 variables.

OXFAM 2010 Before We Eat We Must Struggle: The impact of the GEC at the household level evidence from a qualitative field study - Gauteng and Mpumalanga

The 2010 (May - June) dataset contains a summary of the household responses as given by the head or partner of head to the interview team, using a single aide-memoire interview schedule with open-ended questions together with some quantitative questions. It covers the household situation in regard to poverty, hunger and the impact of the 2008 Global Economic Crisis on poor households and on their members from 2008-2009. Both text transcriptions of the recorded responses and the quantitative material are included in the dataset. Not all households in the sample completed all the questions.

Twenty nine households with 14 at 'Swedenville' and 15 at 'Bergpoort' (Pseudo locations). The main respondent data set has 262 variables, 27 records. The household roster has 18 variables and 106 records. The merged dataset has 279 variables and 106 records.

Perceptions of poverty and its manifestation in three provinces of South Africa, KwaZulu-Natal, Eastern Cape and Limpopo (PPMSA) 2014

This data set was collected in Limpopo, Eastern Cape and KwaZulu-Natal. The target populations were participants in NDA projects that were mainly concerned with income generation namely, the Vukuzenzele Weaving Project, the Zamokuphila Piggery Farming Cooperative, the Asisukume Msinga Agricultural Cooperative, the RASEKO Agricultural Cooperative and Emazizini Primary Cooperative.

15 respondents were selected from each project. The administered questionnaire dealt with policy perceptions of poverty across different themes.

South African Poverty indicators 1996 - 2001 Municipalities: All provinces

This is aggregated data of individuals or households. The data originates from the South African censuses of 1996 and 2001 and covers the whole country at a municipal level. In order to calculate the aggregate poverty gap a cross tabulation of household income by household size, municipality and population group was drawn from the 2001 census.

The poverty gap of each poor household was summed to arrive at the aggregate poverty gap for each municipality.

Topics covered in the questionnaire are: family and changing gender roles (ISSP module); perception of poverty and inequality; necessities for children; family cohesion; community perception and involvement; views of marriage and relationships; views on children and parenting; respondent relationship with partner; voting and party preference; respondent characteristics, household characteristics.

The data set for dissemination contains 2547 cases and 535 variables.

Subsequent to the dissemination of version 1 of this data set an embargo was imposed on the data. Incorrect codes for Q16, Q62, Q154d, Q155c, Q261, Q266a, Q266c, Q266d were edited and 7 redundant variables were deleted from the data file. A new data set is disseminated as version 2.

Subsequent to the dissemination of version 2 of this data set it was discovered that an error had occurred during the merging of the weighting variable into the data file. The weight variable as well as province and geographic location (geotype) were updated with the correct information. The "Dignity, poverty and social grants" module from questionnaire three were deleted from the data set owing to owner's permission. A new data set is disseminated as version 3.

This dataset contains information on 1899 caregivers from the 1961 households that participated in the household survey. However, to facilitate linking, the HHIDs of households completing the household survey were added to this file with no data.

This dataset contains responses obtained directly from the study focal child. There is information from 1835 children from the 1961 households that participated in the household survey. However, to facilitate linking, the HHIDs of households completing the household survey were added to this file with no data meaning there are 1961 records in this file

This data set contains information on the households that met the inclusion criteria for this study. Information was collected from the primary respondent on themselves and their knowledge of the other household members.

For the household survey, 1961 of the 2032 (96.5%) eligible families participated and completed the baseline survey.
